Introduction Roulette – surely the most
iconic of all the casino games! What
online or ‘bricks & mortar’ casino does not use it prominently in their
banners & advertising? And yet, many online casinos seem to treat it as a
second or even third-rate game L This is a great shame
as it is definitely one of the most exciting and emotional roller-coaster
games in the world! I have two personal complaints
about online Roulette generally, which I’m sure many players share with me:- a) We all know that within
milliseconds of clicking the spin button, an RNG in a computer on the other
side of the planet has selected the number the ball will land in. It could be said this is just the same as
real Roulette; the moment the croupier flicks that little white ball around
the rim of the wheel, it is already destined to land on a particular number.
But we all still want to see it bump & dance around the wheel, maybe
going in & out of one of our numbers (or one we don’t want) before
finally coming to rest. Most online
casinos have not made a serious effort at re-creating this thrill. b) Why on earth do online
casinos have such high minimums? I can
understand why B&M casinos have 50c or $1 chips due to available space around
the tables & overheads to cover, but online is totally different – there
really is no logical reason for the $1 chips most places have as
minimum. They are losing out on
potentially $1,000’s of income, but why?
I can’t imagine anyone playing with only 2-3 chips per spin; my
preferred pattern requires 9 chips absolute minimum, up to 20-30. But am I going to play even at $9 per
spin? I think not! So I decided to make a little
table of online Roulette & rate which softwares are best to play at, firstly
in terms of minimum chips size, and then in terms of the quality (or reality)
of the spin action (rated 0-5). I also
looked at whether you can spin the wheel with no bets on the table (important
for certain wagering techniques), and if Roulette play is allowed in meeting
WR for bonuses. (Where a % figure is given, this is what proportion roulette
play counts in the WR based on single zero, non-French versions only!) I also investigated what special
bonus variations are available to give extra excitement to your
spinning! My conclusion from the
softwares I looked at, is that Most of the softwares listed
below have both single zero and double zero versions (for those players who
like giving the house twice as much profit!), and some have French as well
(not listed as ‘special’) and one casino even has a Zero
House Edge game! All have dealer
vocal announcement of the number hit – except RTG for some strange reason
(?). I will add some words about playing
strategies at the bottom of this page at a later date. In the meantime, if
you know of any other reputable casinos with low min chips & great
gameplay, I would be obliged if you would let me know at kk@kasinoking.co.uk (All useful info will earn you Kasino
Kredits!) |

Orbis/OGS; Lasseters, AusVegas * You
can’t spin with no bets, but you
can with just 1c on the table! The
casino is ‘flash’, so you can make it full-screen. Being ‘flash’ you can play from any PC –
even at work if the boss isn’t looking (even better if you ARE the boss!) The
spins look & sound good, though a little too fast to see the numbers
clearly when spinning. Ball goes round 1.5 times, drops, skips 3 times &
stops. But the chips movement is very fast, and the low minimums are a huge
plus! Lasseters have
3 tables: 1c min/$50 max, 50c min/$50 max & $1 min/$500 max. Aus V: Max bet
on 1 no. = $5, on evens & 12’s = $50 – appears to be no max table bet (?) |

10 Bet; (Own SW) * Again, no spins with no bets, but you can with just 10c on
the table! Another ‘Flash’ software (no
download) and the table is rather small compared to some, but the graphics
are very good and the spin is quite realistic even though it’s the same every
time; Ball goes round about 3 times, then drops and skips about 3/4 way round
the wheel before stopping. They have two
tables with different limits: 10c to $50 & $10 to $250 |

Net
Entertainment; Another
no-download software with very good graphics! The wheel is quite small but
spins quite slow & you can see all the numbers clearly. This is one of
very few softwares where the direction of rotation changes with each spin – just
like a real wheel! My only slight critcism is when the ball drops onto the
wheel it stops a little too fast for my liking. They offer
Euro & French Roulette with limits of 10c-$50, $1-$1500 (Euro) or $1-$500

WagerWorks; Seems
to be the leader in trying to please the Roulette lovers! Big, clear graphics with very realistic
spinning – the ball often ‘hopping’ about the wheel into & out of numbers
before coming to rest. They have 3
‘normal’ tables, plus 2 bonus variants:- Double
Bonus Spin Roulette gives you a
chance to win up to 1,200x bet! Hot Streak
Bonus Roulette gives you a shot at
winning up to 25,000x bet! See below. The only bad point is
occasional ‘jerky’ play & connection due to being ‘Flash’ only. |

Ladbrokes Games (MG); Their Roulette has 25p
chips (Note: Roulette Classic starts from 50p chips). The graphics are really
good & the spin pretty realistic. You can’t spin with no bets, but can
with just 1 25p chip on the table. La Boule is a micro-roulette version with only 9 numbers on
the wheel! Small but fun! |

Playtech; Very nice graphics – one of the best. The wheel
spins at just the right speed so you can clearly see the numbers. But once again the spins are always the
same; round 3 times, drops, hops twice over 6-8 numbers & stops. I haven’t played many PlayTechs, but I
think I’ve seen 10c minimums at one or two.
(I will investigate more!)

MicroGaming; European Roulette Gold: Microgaming must have seen my site! J This new version released in May 2006 has far better
graphics than before – same spin pattern, but it is very realistic. They also
have autoplay and a great feature that stores up to 8 betting patterns! (The
old version is crap; The ball spins 3 times around the wheel and then just
appears on one of the numbers – very unrealistic). * Can spin with
no bets at most, but not all MG’s. Roulette
Royal; Automatic 1 chip side bet on
every spin – if same number hits 5 times in a row you win huge progressive
jackpot! (Odds are 1 in 1.874
million). |

CryptoLogic; Super 3D
graphics (background image on this page), but as with most others, let down
slightly by the spin. Ball always goes
round 3 times, drops down, skips over 7-8 numbers & stops. Also has very annoying long pause after
each spin before you can start the next spin.
Can speed up the spins/minute rate by turning off the animations. VIP

This roulette is one of the better
ones visually; despite the fairly small size of the wheel you can see the
numbers clearly & it spins at a nice speed, Same sort of spin pattern as
the others though – round 3 times, a hop & stops. Can’t spin with no
bets, but can with just $1 anywhere on the table. Table limit $100. The have American, Euro & French
versions plus a ‘race track’ version for ease of placing special bets. |

3Dice;
(Own software) As with all 3Dice games, the 3D graphics are superb and clear.
They even give you the choice of 3 different views of the same table! Number 1
almost fills your whole screen with the wheel. The wheel spin is just a fraction too fast,
but – and this is a big but – the animation of the wheel & ball movement
is diabolical; among the worst I’ve seen. It’s all jerky & hard to follow
its trace. If they improved this, and
got rid of the ludicrous $1 minimum chips they could go leaping up my
roulette ranking! |

Rival Gaming; Visually pretty horrible – you can not see the
numbers at all on the spinning wheel, because I don’t think there are any!
The only clue you have to where the numbers are is the green zero. The ball movement is quite good. The table limit is incredibly low at only
$50 (at least, in fun mode it is). |

Cantor /
Kismet; Red Lounge Very
poor graphics in the ‘standard’ single zero game: Wheel is very small, ball
does exact same 2 revolution pattern then just appears on a number. But Zero
does return ½ of even-money bets. Bonus Roulette; Two zero version. Five reds in a row pay bonus = your lowest
bet. When you hit ‘spin’ you zoom in
to the wheel so it fills the whole screen – but the spinning is still very
poor and unrealistic. Note:

Grand Virtual; I think this could be the worst I’ve ever seen!
(Very surprising as their slots are fantastic!)
The wheel spins ridiculously fast and the ball hardly skips or jumps at all –
it just slows down & stops on a number.
The only good thing is if you are a high-roller, the table maximum is $25,000!
(I wish I had that sort of money!) * Allowed 100% in bonus WR on |
